A numbered hexagonal grid generator prints a finite honeycomb with a digit in each cell, then exports the sheet as PDF, PNG, or SVG. The editor opens on a centered cluster numbered 1–19 at a 15 mm radius on A4 portrait. Set Number of hexagons to 31 when you need a month tracker; leave the default when 19 cells are enough. Hexagonal Graph Paper still fills the printable area with empty hexes for maps. Use this page when the numbers themselves are the reason to print.

Set a finite range

  • Number of hexagons: How many cells to print, from 1 to 400. The editor default is 19.
  • Start numbering from: The digit in the first cell (0–9999). Keep 1 for a sheet numbered 1 to 31; set Number of hexagons to 31.
  • Show numbers: Turning the toggle off keeps the same honeycomb and only hides the digits. Start numbering from and Number color stay on the form but cannot be edited until the toggle is on.
  • No scale-to-fit: If 15 mm hexes no longer fit after you lengthen the range, reduce hex size. The page does not shrink cells to squeeze them in.

Centered, rows, or pyramid

  • Centered: The default packs cells into a compact hex-of-hexes. A short last row sits in the middle of the row above it.
  • Rows: Cells fill left to right across the column count you set (1–30, default 7). A short last row stays left-aligned.
  • Pyramid: Rows grow 1, 2, 3… from the top. Leftover cells form a short last row, also left-aligned.
  • Columns: The column control appears only in Rows. Centered and pyramid ignore it.
  • Pointy-top only: Every layout draws pointy-top hexes. This tool has no flat-top switch.

Size, color, and print

  • Hex size: Radius from the center to a vertex, 5–50 mm (default 15 mm). Two-digit numbers stay readable around 12–15 mm.
  • Fill, stroke, and type: Cell fill sits on the Hex row; number color sits beside Start numbering from; grid line color sits on Grid Line Style. Line weight runs from 0.1 mm to 0.8 mm.
  • Paper: A4, A3, A5, or Letter, portrait or landscape, with margins up to 50 mm and optional centering inside those margins.
  • Print: Export PDF and print at Actual Size (100%). Fit to Page changes the printed radius and the numbers no longer match the setting.

Hexes are pointy-top. Size is the radius in millimetres. One sheet holds at most 400 cells. Overflow is clipped; cells do not shrink.

Readable numbers on a printed hex sheet

  • Month reprint: Keep the same hexagon count, start number, layout, and hex size, then print a fresh 1–31 sheet each month instead of writing new digits on last month’s page.
  • Fit in the margins: Watch the cluster against the margin box in the preview. If a vertex clips, drop hex size by 0.5 mm until the whole honeycomb sits inside.
  • Lamination: Cardstock plus laminate holds up as a dry-erase habit tracker or attendance board.
  • Virtual tabletops: A 300 DPI PNG works as a numbered overlay when callers need to name a hex during play.
  • SVG edits: Export SVG to nudge a label or merge two cells in Inkscape. Do not redraw a raster PNG when you only need one vector change.

What is a numbered hexagonal grid used for?

A numbered hexagonal grid is a finite honeycomb with a printed digit in each cell, used for month trackers, habit logs, attendance boards, and playtest maps that need a stable hex ID. It is not empty map paper. For a blank tessellation that fills the page, use Hexagonal Graph Paper.

How do I print hexes numbered 1 to 31?

Set Number of hexagons to 31 and leave Start numbering from at 1, then pick centered, rows, or pyramid. The editor default is 19 cells at 15 mm; a 31-cell sheet at that size often clips, so drop hex size (around 12 mm on A4) until the preview sits inside the margins. Print the PDF at Actual Size.

How is this different from hexagonal graph paper?

Hexagonal Graph Paper tiles empty hexes across the printable area for RPG maps and diagrams. This page prints a finite cluster whose size is the number range, with optional digits in the cells. Use the empty tool for battle mats; use this one when the numbers are the product.

What is the difference between centered, rows, and pyramid?

Centered packs cells into a compact hex-of-hexes and centers a short last row. Rows fills a fixed column count left to right and leaves a short last row on the left. Pyramid grows 1, 2, 3… from the top, with leftover cells left-aligned on the last row.

Why doesn’t the sheet shrink when the hexes are too big?

Hex size is a printed millimetre radius, not a “fit on page” scale. If the cluster is larger than the margins, overflowing vertices are clipped. Reduce hex size, widen the paper, or shorten the range until the preview fits.

What is the largest range I can print?

Number of hexagons runs from 1 to 400. Start numbering from runs from 0 to 9999; the last printed digit cannot exceed 9999, so a 400-cell sheet that would overflow pulls the start back.
